AN ex-solder who has toured some of the most dangerous places on the planet has turned his hand to a new venture - cutting gents’ hair.

Liam Hamilton, from Illogan, was an infantry soldier for the Coldstream Guards before he was medically discharged.

But while on deployment in Northern Ireland during the mid-1990s Mr Hamilton somehow was handed the job of regiment barber.

He said cutting hair has always interested him and although excited to set up his own business, he says it is the scariest thing he has done.

Mr Hamilton said: “There’s always a great atmosphere in a barber shop.

“The battlefields of Iraq and Northern Ireland are nothing compared to opening your own barbershop.

“Hamilton’s is contemporary but with a relaxed feel.”

Mayor of Redruth cllr Judy Davidson officially opened the barbershop flanked by sergeant Tim Rowe, corporal Ian Prowse and Redruth Town Crier George Saint.

Mr Hamilton has taken on one member of staff and is offering discount to those who serve or have served in the forces.
