THE Cornish dog welfare group Canine Crusaders is appealing to the local community for increased support.

Volunteer Sue Smith says: "This month alone, 12 dogs have needed veterinary attention – mainly due to advanced dental and skin conditions.

"Costs soon mount up, and all this at a time when we have seen more dogs than ever before being given up for re-homing and a considerable reduction in the amount of donations coming in.

"There has also been a significant fall in the number of people looking to take on a dog."

Sue is appealing for donations – whether large or small – and also for people to become foster carers; for more information, call Canine Crusaders on 01209 717512.

I contacted you on tuesday because I met Jetta in the carpark. Ihave wanted to adopt a dog for ages now and would love to give Jetta a happy home.No details were taken from me but I am genuine, although I felt that the person who answered the phone was not really very interested about rehousing one of the dogs, despite the desperation to do so. I would really appreciate some kind of idea as to whether it would be a possibility for me to adopt her and a bit of information about how you work. My e mail address is lalovegrove@yahoo.co.uk and my phone no is 01326 240988. Please could someone contact me about my chances of giving Jetta a happy home. Thanks
