AN ILLOGAN man accused of assaulting his sister with whom it was alleged he had issues over inheritance was given a community order for two years at Truro Magistrates' Court.

Darren Cartwright, 35, of Chariot Road, Illogan Highway, Redruth, pleaded guilty to assaulting Michelle Cartwright when he appeared before the magistrates on April 15.

Gail Hawkley, for the prosecution, said Ms Cartwright told the police there had been tension as her brother wanted the family home sold, because, she believed, he wanted some inheritance.

On February 21 Cartwright went to her home and there were words between him and his sister, followed by an assault on her by him.

At a subsequent hearing the court heard that Cartwright said his assault had only involved restraining his sister by holding her wrists.

The community order included a probation supervision, a requirement for him to take part in a thinking skills programme and with a prohibited activity requirement not to contact his sister.
