Cyclist killed: Police appeal

A 64-year old cyclist was killed yesterday while crossing the A30 near Hayle after a collision involving three cars.

Traffic around west Cornwall was gridlocked for more than three hours after the incident at St Erth at 4pm.

The man, said to be from the local area, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske after being hit by one of the cars.

He was later pronounced dead, has been formally identified and his next of kin have been informed.

The driver of one of the cars, a German national, was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and released on police bail until August 31.

The collision, involving a silver Honda Jazz, a blue Vauxhall Insignia and silver Volvo V70, took place on Monday July 27.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact Camborne traffic unit on 08452 777444 quoting log 681 of 27th July 2009.
