The councillor, who falsely claimed to have been appointed a Member of the British Empire, has begun the process of his resignation.
Terry Wilkins, who claimed that he was a victim of an “elaborate and malicious hoax”, also admitted to having never received an Open University Degree in Health and Wellness as he had previously stated.
He said: “I have resigned from the group and association.
“I am waiting instructions from my legal team on the way to formalise my councillor resignation.”
After an investigation by the West Briton it was discovered that Mr Wilkins had never been awarded an MBE and instead said that he was set up by a former colleague back in 1995 while working in the Metropolitan police service.
He said that he received a medal in the post but decided not to attend the investiture at Buckingham Palace and instead put the medal away in a drawer.
Stuart Odgers, from the Camborne and Redruth Conservative Association, said: “The Camborne and Redruth Conservative Association has conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations surrounding Concillor Terry Wilkins.
“Following these investigations Councillor Wilkins has tendered his resignation which has been accepted.
“We would like to thanks Mr Wilkins for his hard work as our county councillor working on behalf of the residents of Illogan and also for his dedication in supporting individuals and various organisations dealing with learning disabilities throughout the county. “
On Mr Wilkins’ professional profile on the website LinkedIn he listed that he had a pending degree in Health and Wellness from the Open University.
He later stated that he was completely innocent regarding the matter and was actually playing a game with another person who was jealous of him in an attempt to embarrass him.
Mr Wilkins has since removed all mentions of an MBE and Open University degree from his online profiles.
