COUNCIL tax will go up by £2.12 per month for Penryn residents in Band D, the town council announced at its budget presentation on Monday.

The revised precept for the 2014-2015 financial year is now £203,000, equating to an increase of £21.20 a year for council tax payers in Band D.

This accounts for a budget of £3,800 for weeds clearance as Cornwall Council will be discontinuing the service.

It also includes an increase in the CCTV budget of £8,000 to cover the cost of CCTV transmission to the monitoring room as Cornwall Council has withdrawn this funding.

Added to that is a decrease in the Council Tax Scheme Grant from Cornwall Council of £4,000.

At Monday’s meeting, the town council rejected a proposal from the Penryn Traders Group to swap the lease on Permarin car park for a lease on the Commercial Road car park.
