Cornwall RL 12 Devon RL 54
Devon won this cross Tamar rugby league challenge for the second year running as the sport returned to Cornwall after a 26 year absence.

This was the first time that a Cornish side had played the thirteen-man code of the game on home soil but they found their more experienced hosts a real handful from the outset and trailed after only one minute.

Having knocked on at the kick-off Cornwall conceded possession and from the resulting scrum Kyle Brown scored the opening try.

Devon ran in two more tries from Martin Browne and Alex Stevens inside the first ten minutes as Cornwall fell off tackles in midfield and struggled with the more direct approach of the Devonians.

Four more tries followed before half-time from Nick Woolley and Alex Ford whilst Browne weighed in with a pair to complete his own hat-trick of touchdowns. Four conversions from Stevens left Devon in command at 36-0 as the interval hooter sounded.

Cornwall were more competitive after the break and finally opened their account after 45 minutes as skipper Adam Copeland went over from close range, Grant Thirlby converted.

Billy Stockwell and Matt Hillman further extended the Devon lead with converted tries of their own but as heavy rain made handling increasingly difficult for both sides, Chris Simcock capitalised on spilt ball by the visitors and raced clear from twenty metres for Cornwall`s second try.

Devon lost captain Matt Cuss to the sin bin in the closing moments but with the final play of the game registered their tenth try of the night.

Finn Turley broke clear from half-way only to be tackled inches short of the Cornish line. Gary Mitchell maintained the momentum and ploughed over the whitewash from close range.
