There are a few very exclusive addresses in the country where properties go for tens of millions of pounds. One of them is Cornwall Terrace. Cornwall Terrace, London, that is.

Situated opposite Regents Park, the Grade I listed properties in NW1 were built in 1811.

The last of the recently developed terrace mansions is on the market for £40 million - the UK's most expensive terrace house - and comprises of six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a carriageway driveway, spa and swimming pool.

Travel 300 miles west and you reach the historic market town of Penzance and a Cornwall Terrace with a very different price tag.

174 times cheaper than it's London namesake, properties in Cornwall Terrace, TR18, go for a meagre £230,000.

The grade II listed 2-bed properties with 'token garden' are considered pretty exclusive in west Cornwall and are listed as being one of the "most prime locations within Penzance", close to the shops and promenade.

Resident Sam Coad, 50, describes the terrace as having a diverse population, "like a piano keyboard," with a "typical Penwith mixture of artists and a few eccentrics."

He says Cornwall Terrace, Penzance is "lovely because of it's location. If I pop to the shops I go through Morrab gardens or along the front. I always get a dose of the sea or the sub-tropical - it's definitely the best location in Penzance."

On the price tag of Cornwall Terrace's London namesake, Mr Coad said "£40 million is extreme. It's an international city and its prices reflect that. It's just a completely different property market."
