Cornish journalist Peter Shevlin will present a Radio 4 programme next week about Princess Diana.
During the documentary, Princess Di’s Handshake, he recalls a chance meeting with the princess during a visit to Redruth in 1985.
"I was 10 years old and it was a classic April showers kind of day.
"Everyone was second-guessing where Diana would be next.
"I was on my Grifter bike, trying to find a good space to see her.
"Pond Lane was the place to get a great view and I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.”
His meeting with Princess Di was around the same time that she famously shook hands with HIV/AIDS patients at Britain’s first purpose built AIDS ward at Middlesex Hospital.
The documentary on August 14 at 9pm explores how important touch is for both patients and healthcare professionals.
