THE best archers in two counties let their arrows fly across a school's sports fields in a tournament on Sunday.

Of 60 competitors aged from 9 to more than 70 in the Devon and Cornwall Archery Society County Championships at Newquay Tretherras Academy, two from the Helston/Lizard area made it to the final.

County tournament organiser Judith Brelsford said: "It was a lovely sunny day but the wind was pulling arrows down. It was a great event, though, and there were some fantastic displays of archery."

Cornish archers fared well, with winners including Sarah Conisbee, from near Helston, and Nicole Challacombe, from The Lizard.
