A MEXICAN-born Cornishwoman is going global with her business teaching modern languages.

Two years ago Maria Gracida, who has lived in the county for more than 20 years, launched her own business teaching people her native Spanish in the comfort of her own home.

Now she is expanding the business in two ways – not only she is offering more languages, she is also teaching students online, opening up the world as potential clients.

The Native Tongue offers a variety of modern languages including Spanish, French, Italian and Mandarin Chinese, with more planned for 2014.

The language courses are conversation based, so minimising the need for written grammar and instead maximising the use of practical speaking skills.

Maria says: “All these lessons can be taken from the comfort of your own home, office or in fact anywhere – there are no software downloads, the lessons are live and you will be interacting with other students of similar ability in an online classroom.

“You will be able to see and speak to your native teacher as you take part in relaxed conversational activities designed to help you learn to speak practical everyday language.”

Groups are small and progress is can be very fast working with Maria’s team of mainly Cornwall-based enthusiastic and qualified teachers.

New courses are starting in January so a course of lessons could be a good Christmas idea.

Maria says she is offering 10 per cent discount to any readers who mention this article.
