A COMMUNITY care group is still going from strength to strength after 15 years.

Carnon Carers was formed in 1999 by a group of three volunteers in Carnon Downs.

Now it consists of 20 nurses who give up their time to help out.

Secretary of the Carnon Carers Sandra Tregidgo said: "We meet on the third Tuesday of every month at the Falmouth Hotel and try to organise a trip out every other week.

"This year we will continue to eat out regularly and we have several guest speakers lined up, including a commander from RNAS Culdrose, who should watch out because our ladies are a rowdy bunch and love a man in uniform.

"We will also be going to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party and holding a celebration to mark our 15th year."

The group is funded by the Cornwall Rural Community Council and now cares for more than 20 people.

Each year the group holds a summer garden party as well as a Christmas party, and days out in 2013 included a cream tea afternoon with the Mayor of Falmouth Geoffrey Evans, an Easter egg hunt and a trip to Carlyon Bay to see the Christmas lights.

It also visited HMS Cornwall on her last call to Falmouth and members regularly enjoyed performances from local comedian Johnny Cowling.

Ms Tregidgo said: "We try to get the people that we care for to join us and escape from any problems they may have at home, and we also make them feel valued as people.

"I'm so proud of what we've achieved over the years and how much this group has grown."
