A GROUP gathered in Truro to seek support for campaigns to increase the minimum wage and stop the fighting in Gaza.

The group from the Socialist Party set up a stall on Lemon Quay on Saturday encouraging people to sign petitions supporting both campaigns.

The group was also aiming to get support for setting up a branch of the Socialist Party in Cornwall.

Ryan Aldred, one of those manning the stand, said: "We got quite a lot of interest from people and the response was pretty good.

"Quite a few signed our petition to increase the minimum wage to £10 an hour as well as against the current situation in Gaza.

"We also sold some copies of our newspaper which gave people more information on the Gaza situation.

"We'd like to set up a local branch of the Socialist Party and hope to organise a meeting soon for anyone interested in getting involved."
