Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson was pipped to the post in a Ready Steady Cook-style cooking demonstration at the Porthleven Food and Music Festival this weekend.

Worrall Thompson, who is the festival's patron, took part in the contest with local chef Jude Kereama during the festivities on Saturday. Mr Kereama, of the award-winning Kota restaurant in Porthleven, emerged victorious.

Nicky Adair, the festival chair, said the event as a whole was "just fantastic", and the cooking demonstration was one of many highlights.

"The demo with Antony Worrall Thompson was by all accounts quite funny, especially the fact that Jude won," she said.

About 100 producers, stall-holders and entertainers took part in the food and music festival. It kicked off with a hog roast and live music on Friday night and continued with a range of entertainment on Saturday, including cookery demonstrations from top local chefs and musical performances.

On the Young Persons Field children tried their hand at cooking and sold some of their home-made produce.  There was also a full programme of performances by young musicians from West Cornwall.

"Everything together just made for a really good atmosphere," said Ms Adair. "The main thing for me was the sheer effort that the community had put into it."

The festival is now in its fourth year. Last year it attracted about 15,000 visitors and Ms Adair estimated that this year the figure was at least the same again.

"The feedback that we've had since has been phenomenal," she said.

Did he pay for the food he used, or did he shop in Tesco.

The demo with Antony Worrall Thompson was by all accounts quite funny, he also quite clearly had something to laugh about when he went to Tesco's! Read more: http://tinyurl.com/7koxqj4

Maybe he will cheer himself up by "packing his bags badly at the self service checkouts" in our local supermarket...
