POLICE have described the theft of charity boxes from a Hayle pub as “disgraceful”.

The Cornish Arms, on Commercial Road, was broken into with intruders making off with two charity boxes and money from the gambling machine and pool table.

It happened between 12.30am and 8am on Monday.

PC Ian Tolchard said it was unclear if it was the work of an individual or a group of people.

He said: “They have clearly targeted the charity boxes, which are both obviously marked. They are stealing from the community in Hayle. It is disgraceful.”

The pub was collecting for Help the Heroes and Cornwall Air Ambulance. It is unclear how much was in the boxes when they were taken.

Cleaners discovered the break-in when they arrived on Monday and found the gambling machine smashed.

A police investigation is

under way and a specialist team has been at the pub to conduct fingerprint tests.

Police are appealing for

anyone with information about the burglary to come forward and contact them on 101

quoting the crime reference AY/14/119.

Sadly incidents are becoming all too common. I expect it will go into someone's arm or up his/her nose.
