CAMBORNE Town Council has agreed to buy a £250,000 handyman's workshop in Redruth.
At its full town council meeting it passed a motion by a majority vote to take out a 25-year loan to purchase a unit at the Barncoose Industrial Estate.
During the same meeting it voted against a motion by Councillor Adam Crickett, who had called for a full inquiry into the decision.
Mr Crickett said he wanted the town council to investigate the process of purchasing new workshop space and facilities.
He told the council: "I've received many angry messages about the decision.
"It's in the council's best interests that we're doing what's in residents' best interests and that's the reason for it," he said.
Councillor Jude Robinson, who seconded his motion, said she hoped other members took the proposal to investigate the decision in good faith, adding: "It's an important issue as to how the decision was made and something we need to be clear about ourselves and show our people that we are taking it seriously."
However, the majority of members said they felt the council had already spent many hours discussing and investigating the matter and different workshop options and consequently voted down Mr Crickett's motion.
