"I HAVE only been a Cornwall councillor since May 2013 and have experienced an incredible learning and training curve.

"Previously, I found it easy to blame the 'council' for most of Cornwall's ills. Now I know how hard officers and members try to get things right within an incredibly tight budget.

"Yes, there have been mistakes made; that is one effect of learning. There will be more to come, hopefully few and small in nature.

"Over the next few years, due to the unfair funding regime from our ruling government, there will be further 'belt tightening' but hopefully we will survive, improved.

"Am I glad to have served? Yes I am. Am I looking forward to the next few years? Yes. But with a 'smidgen' of trepidation.

"Happy birthday council."
