Candy Atherton, Labour, Falmouth Smithick:
"IT IS easy to be critical of Cornwall Council and I am often at the forefront, but from within you can see the other side. The staff risking their own lives, working day and night to help people during last winter's storms, the carers helping older residents to remain in their own homes to the officers who go the extra mile to sort things out in my area of Falmouth.
"It is easy to be cynical about councillors but most that I have met are committed to their area and are working on issues out of sight of their somewhat more jaundiced electorate. On the other hand the demand of officers and some members to defer issues rather than get on with things drives me mad, the cuts to despair and the future of our public services in Cornwall looks bleak to me.
"Without a district council, towns and parishes will be faced with picking up the slack as cuts start to be felt. Overall I think Cornwall Council is better than the old county.
"Cornwall Council is a mix of the good, the bad and the somewhat less beautiful but together we have to make it work."
