A BURGLAR was caught red-handed after stealing more than £20,000 in cash from a Falmouth post office safe.

Dene Tregidgo, 22, from Esperanza Court, Falmouth, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates' Court yesterday morning to the burglary at Boslowick Post Office in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He will be sentenced at Truro Crown Court on March 20.

Sergeant Martin Roberts, from Falmouth police, called it a victory for a return to an old style of policing. Operation Heartbeat – where officers patrol commercial premises at night – was launched recently in the Falmouth area.

Police caught the man as he was leaving the property.

Sergeant Roberts said: "Officers were in the neighbourhood and attended the incident."

The silly thing about our courts is highlighted here. If he pleads guilty, and as he was caught red handed he can hardly plead otherwise, he will get a third knocked off his sentence.
