VISITORS from Helston's twin town of Plougasnou are being welcomed to town this week.

The group of 14 visitors from the district in Brittany will be staying with host families until Sunday.

The twinning association's Judith Haycock, also a Cornwall councillor, said: "We hope they get a real feel for ordinary life in Helston.

"The reason for inviting them at this time was so that we could take them to Falmouth for the Tall Ships events.

"We will be spending most of Friday there, culminating in a boat trip in the evening, and on the Sunday we will be taking them to see the ships racing.

"However, there is still plenty of time for activities in Helston."

The group are being taken out for lunch and theatre group Act 2 are putting on a special performance for friends and families.

They will also be formally invited to the guildhall by Helston mayor Mike Thomas.

Mrs Haycock added: "There will be time to stroll around Helston and visit our local shops and museum.

"The Blue Anchor is always very popular and no doubt they will fit in several visits there.

"Previous years we have hosted visitors for the Gorsedh, Harvest Fair and Flora Day.

"It is lovely to show off to people what a wonderful town we have."

Anyone who wants to know more about the twinning association or would like to join is welcome to call Spike Laugher on 01326 562256.
