Wendron United 0, Bodmin Town 3
Cornwall Senior Cup holders Bodmin Town booked their place in the semi-final of the competition at Underland on Saturday - but it wasn’t until the second half that Darren Gilbert’s men finally saw off their brave Combination League hosts.
Bodmin finally made the breakthrough in the 70th minute through Danny O’Hagan, and the two goals that followed somewhat flattered the CSWPL premier division giants who really had to dig deep against Paul Murray’s hard-working Wendron.
An entertaining first half saw both sides hit the woodwork. First, with 16 minutes played, Luke Wort saw his diving header come back off the Bodmin post. Bodmin’s Sam Matthews then saw his 20th minute come off the angle of the post and the bar.
Bodmin, frustrated on countless occasions in the first half by a well-organised Wendron defence, which was prepared to sit deep, stepped it up in the second half. And with 20 minutes remaining there was relief on the visiting bench when O’Hagan headed home Jimmy Alexander’s corner.
Four minutes later O’Hagan scored his second, this time sliding to poke the ball past Wendron goalkeeper Jeremy Brown.
In the 90th minute Chris Wright claimed Bodmin’s third goal when, after Brown had saved his first effort, the striker followed up to prod the ball home.
Bodmin will now meet Saltash United in the semi-finals at St Blazey’s Blaise Park on March 12.
