PERRANZABULOE Parish Council's appeal against an order forcing it to make safe three mines features on Perranporth beach is being heard at Bodmin Magistrates on January 24.

Cornwall Council issued the abatement notice in December giving the council three months to carry out work to make the mine features safe or face possible prosecution.

It follows a request by the family of Eleanor Clarke; who fell to her death while exploring a mine adit on the beach in 2010, for the features to be declared a statutory nuisance

The parish council is appealing saying that it wants clarification on who owns the mines and is responsible for any remedial work;  while the oarish council it owns Droskyn beach the Duchy maintains mineral rights along the cliff.
