RICK Stein and Jill Stein’s pub The Cornish Arms in St Merryn will be hosting its third annual Beer & Mussel Festival on Saturday, March 8, and Sunday, March 9.

The event will showcase 28 of the finest Cornish and British beers and ciders, as well as enjoying a variety of Rick’s favourite mussel dishes. There will be live music playing throughout the weekend, stand up comedy, cookery demonstrations and entertainment for children - and hopefully some sunshine too.

The festival weekend will open at noon on Saturday with a cookery demonstration by their executive chef and Rick’s son Jack Stein and local Michelin-starred chef Chris Eden followed by relaxing tunes from Taz DJay. The Motown Pirates will be live on stage from 8pm, playing the best of Motown, soul and funk to help guests dance the night away.

For sports enthusiasts, Sunday will coincide with the RBS 6 Nations Championship England vs Wales game which will be screened live at the festival at 3pm.

There will be a charity pub quiz raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West on Sunday at 6pm, while comedy fans are in for a real treat when the festival concludes with local celebrity and stand-up comedian, Kernow King taking to the stage at 8pm.

Over the weekend freshly cooked Cornish mussels will be in abundance with recipes chosen to complement the beers such as moules marinière, la mouclade and mussels with beer and bacon. There will also be a curry dish available from Rick Stein’s India for non mussel eaters.

Rick said: "March is the best month in the year for mussels, any time is good for proper beer brewed by people who love what they do. A big marquee next to our lovely pub with some great music, a fab selection of beers and some of my favourite mussel dishes; what could be a better combination on a weekend by the coast in Cornwall."
