A BARNSTAPLE woman has admitted claiming £57,000 in benefits she was not entitled to by failing to tell the authorities she was living with her partner.
At Truro Crown Court on Monday, Emma Lambert, 44, of Rumsam Close, pleaded guilty to two charges of dishonestly failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions and North Devon District Council that she was living with Mark Roberts as husband and wife.
Those charges were in respect of claims for income support and employment support allowance and housing and council tax benefits between July 2008 and November 2012.
She also admitted two counts of making a dishonest representation with a view to claiming benefits to North Cornwall Council on September 12 and 25, 2008.
Julia Cox, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said the amount of money involved was £57,000.
Adjourning the case to next month for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, Judge Christopher Harvey Clark, QC, said: “I appreciate how distressing this whole matter is for you but having pleaded guilty I need to know more about you and your background.”
