Cornish Pirates hooker Rob Elloway has been called up to represent the Barbarians in their end of season fixture against Clontarf in Dublin on April 23, writes Dick Straughan.

The 30 year-old, who has just signed a new two year deal at the Pirates, began his senior career at Kingsholm with Premiership side Gloucester making 15 appearances for the first team.

After a brief loan spell with Pertemps Bees he was signed to the Pirates by then head coach Mark Hewitt in the summer of 2007 and is now heading towards 200 appearances for the Cornish club, where he combines playing with coaching Western Counties West side St.Ives.

Born in Germany, Elloway also earned two caps for his home country during the 2009-10 season making his debut against Russia in the European Nations Cup.

The Barbarians last fixture was in November when their side, coached by Pirates Director of Rugby Ian Davies and featuring centre Tom Riley, were beaten by the Combined Services.

Following the game in Ireland they will play England at Twickenham on June 1.
