A PENSIONER lost cherished personal possessions when the mobile home he was preparing to move into was torched by arsonists.

Devastated chairman of Troon Football Club, Malcolm Faull, lost personal possessions in the arson attack on the home he was due to move into at its ground in an attempt to help prevent vandalism there.

A club member who saw smoke billowing from Mr Faull's mobile home at Grouter Park called 999 at about 10am on September 10.

It was thought a concrete block was used to break one of the windows before the fire was started only metres from the clubhouse.

The 65-year-old club stalwart said: "We have had problems with vandalism with windows being broken and things being stolen like our new lawnmower.

"It's petty vandalism but I feel we need someone on the site and as I am retired I was going to live there, put an allotment there, have chickens and look after my horses, the club and its facilities."

Mr Faull said personal belongings such as family photographs, club paperwork and archives were destroyed in the £2,000 home, which had been on the site for 12 months.

"It's all gone and none of it can be replaced. Why it happened is an utter mystery and I am dumbfounded.

"I don't think anybody has a grudge against the club and I haven't got enemies. I feel pretty angry and devastated at the moment. It is not a lot of money but it's money I could not afford to lose and I had things that had sentimental value.

"The club is going from strength to strength. It is a small community and we want to do our best for the young in the area but if this is the reward it makes you wonder why we are doing it."

Police are investigating the suspected arson attack and anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting crime reference AC/12/3573.
