A 66-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after falling from a cliff in Trevone Bay, near Padstow.

A coastguard team from Padstow were called to the incident at around 10pm last night.

The casualty was taking out rubbish when he fell around 40ft from the cliffs and landed on the beach below.

Paramedics called for an airlift but the helicopter was already engaged with the rescue of a fisherman 200m off the coast of the Isles of Scilly.

A spokesperson from Falmouth Coastguard said the rescue team assisted the casualty to the land ambulance.

He confirmed that the man had suffered serious injuries and was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro for stabilisation.

The current condition of the casualty is unknown.

This man is my father and after 5 days in intensive care in Truro Hospital he was safely moved to a hospital closer to home in Kent. The care he received while in Cornwall was amazing and we are so thankful to everyone who was involved in it. He has many broken bones but nothing that wont heal with a bit of surgery and lots of time. He has had so many wonderful holidays in Cornwall and I'm sure he will be back - but we'll keep him away from any cliffs!
